Talking to the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex, Neill Blomkamp said he is not so much interested in a sequel to District 9 because “it’s more of a traditional film but if you go backward I’d be intrigued in that. I’m not so interested in aliens coming back and blowing things up but [a prequel] might be interesting”

I would love to see Sharlto Copley’s reprise his odious hero role but I’m a little worried about the idea of a prequel given Hollywood’s recent track record. I remind you of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Wolverine, Dumb & Dumberer and AVP: Alien vs. Predator. But with Neill Blomkamp Directing and if Peter Jackson is producing again and working outside the Hollywood system, I think it could be the great surprise that District 9 was. It opened bggier than Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening. That’s an impressive debut for a film that doesn’t feature big name stars like Tom Cruise or Mark Wahlberg. That is so inspiring to read, a short filmmaker that leaps into the feature world and makes an amazing piece of cinema. I saw District 9 and loved every minute of it. Hoping District 10 will let us see other planets. I’m excited to see what they do next.
