Who Shot J.R.??? …Again?

It was sad news to fans around the world when Larry Hagman passed away at 81 after complications from a recent bout with cancer late last year. He had once again become the best thing about the television series, Dallas. We loved to hate him as the villain in the original series back in the 70s and 80s. And we hated him more in TNT’s Dallas revamp. Somehow he had gotten more evil with time. He was just so damn good in the role of J.R. Ewing.
But NOT everything gets better with age. Including television writers creativity. TV Guide via TVLine is reporting Hagman’s character will leave the show via a “Who Shot J.R.” scenario in the eighth episode of the second season.
While I agree with there reasoning from exec producer Cynthia Cidre who told the guide, “We all felt having J.R. die of natural causes would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman,” it is however disastrously unoriginal.
Apparently respecting and loving the character does not warrant an original exit. But I’m sure they’ll chalk up some good ad revenue rehashing the storyline that kept the whole country wondering during the summer of 1980.
