Trailer: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer
The Amazing Spider-Man trailer is here, The Amazing Spider-Man trailer is here!!! Today Sony screened about eight minutes of new footage for it’s Marc Webb directed Spider-Man revamp. We knew the footage was coming today at 13 select theaters around the world, the big surprise was that the studio and Marvel would be dropping the first Spider-Man trailer on us too.
It was a bold move and big chance for the studio to remake the web-slinger just five years after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 but from the looks of this trailer I think the gamble is going to pay off. This Spider-Man reboot has a lot of things going for it in its favor. They assembled what I believe to be the best and most talented cast in any Spidey movie yet. Granted we haven’t seen Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and many movies but hes was great in both The Social Network and Never Let Me Go. Then you got the always amazing Emma Stone, Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy, who’s already won a ton of awards for her work in last years The Help. On top of that you’ve got top notch British actor, Rhys Ifans, as the bad guy. When you throw in Martin Sheen and Sally field as Parker’s aunt and uncle, it all adds up to a real stellar cast.
Add Marc Webb’s storytelling ability to the great actors and the movies is getting better and better. Webb really only has one feature to his directing credit, (500) Days of Summer, but he beautifully crafted what could have been just another boing rom-com into a beautiful story about love loss and the eventuality of overcoming it.
Another thing going for The Amazing Spider-Man is that it will be presented in glorious 3D. Now I know you regular readers of FilmPopper.com will not doubt want to call me out on my hypocrisy here. And I know, I know, I hate 3D, I trash it every chance I get, but with Spider-Man it’s a little different. The visuals of Spider-Man swinging though the skyscrapers of New York City should be an outstanding site and I’m excited about it! On top of that, when I really think about it, I think it’s really just the glasses and the gimicky nature of 3D that I hate. While we’re on the topic of special effects, the quality has increased dramatically since Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man film back in 2002. In fact the CG of spidey in that film was quite awful. It increased over the next two films but never quite looked real.
So anyway The Amazing Spider-Man trailer trailer came out today and it looks pretty darn cool. First thoughts, the action looks awesome. There also seems to be high amounts of tension and conflict between the characters, something that was missing from Raimi’s trilogy. And something I expected from Webb.
Note: From what I said here, it may seem like I’m anti-Raimi Spider-man. I’m not. I loved Spider-Man 1 and 2 and really enjoyed the third even though it got way off track.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters July 3, 2012.
