THE LIST: The Ricky Gervais Golden Globes “Controversy”

Last week we introduced a new weekly feature called THE LIST.  And you do NOT want to end up on THE LIST.  It is reserved for people or things that bug us so much we just can’t keep it to ourselves.  If you disagree with anything we post feel free to leave a comment telling us why we don’t know what we’re talking about.

Leave Ricky Gervais Alone! I have to say I was puzzled by last week’s backlash against Ricky Gervais and his hilarious jokes at the 68th Annual Golden Globes. There was a big hooplah about how mean and controversial they were, but the material  seemed pretty consistent with his previous shows. Why would you hire Ricky Gervais to host a show and then act surprised when Ricky Gervais shows up? Yes, many of his comments were offensive, and he took a lot of jabs a people standing five feet from him, but they were also funny. And let’s face it- most awards shows aren’t.  I usually sit through them because I want to feel informed the next day, but it isn’t always a pleasant experience.  I’ll trade hours of boredom for a little “offensiveness” any day. And Hollywood loves themselves so much, there’s nothing wrong with knocking them down occasionally. And lastly if $20 million a picture can’t buy you a thicker skin I don’t know what can.

Boom! Roasted!

I am not a fan of Hollywood and only learned about this on the news but funny is relative. If you were on the receiving end of the jokes you wouldn’t think it’s funny.

Gervais is my new hero. Hollywood takes themselves way to seriously. They are more than willing to give their spin on things and insult people. But when the tables are turned, they freak out. They are a bunch of pampered individuals who need to be brought back to earth periodically. What they do is not important. It’s entertainment and that is all.
