The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting that The Dark Knight Rises is set to film in Pittsburgh this summer. The Warner Bros. production and third and final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise is expected to film for four to six weeks in and around the Downtown area.
Christopher Nolan said, “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”
The Pittsburgh mayor, Luke Ravenstahl couldn’t be happier, he said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be welcoming the Batman film to Pittsburgh, and eager for the economic impact that our city will experience… This is another example of the growing film industry in our community, and we will be rolling out the red carpet for them.”
So what does filming The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh mean as far as possible story details? First, if you recall, The Dark Knight was filmed in Chicago which made a great backdrop for Gotham City. So wouldn’t it be better for continuity to finish off the trilogy in Chicago? But you may also recall the last time we saw Batman, he was booking it out of town after taking the blame for a murder at the end of The Dark Knight. So could it be that Bruce Wayne is hiding out in another city, working things out mentally, due to the depression brought on by a whole city hating him? Well hopefully at some point Gotham needs him so bad that he returns home where he will rise once again as the vigilante bat and savior of Gotham… or Pittsburgh could just be a cheaper filming location.
Christopher Nolan is directing his third and final Batman film from a script that he and his brother Jonathan Nolan wrote base on a story from himself and David S. Goyer. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman will all return to reprise their roles. While Anne Hathaway will debut as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard are both rumored to have roles in the film as well.
