Launter and Bay have already sent a script out to studios, and bidding wars have begun. According to Deadline, Bay and Lautner are not discussing the script’s story, but insiders described it as “Mr & Mrs. Smith meets Wanted“. The script was was written by Jason Hall who was handpicked by the duo.
If Lautner wants to be an action star, and it appears that he does, there’s no better man to hook up with then Mr. Bay. While Bay’s movies are not the always the best written, acted or developed, that dude knows how to blow stuff up and pack a movie house.
Lautner already has a busy 2011, he’s producing and starring in two new studio tentpoles, Incarceron over at Fox 2000, and the Untitled Spy Project at New Regency, both with 8-digit paydays. And then he’ll finish shooting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn this spring. And at some point he’s been reported to be taking on the role of Stretch Armstrong. It appears that Lautner is going to have a busy 2012 and beyond as well after signing on with Bay.
Lautner has not yet proven himself able to bring in a big crowd as a leading man. He’s basically fueling his career with the huge Twilight box office success and those mega 8-pack abs, so he’s doing good to get into as many studio tent poles as possible.
Lautner can next be seen in the thriller Abduction, out September 23rd and then he’ll return as Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on November 18.
