Diablo Cody has kept the details of her upcoming Sweet Valley High adaptation on the down low but it looks like MTV’s Josh Horowitz was able to pry a few nuggets of information from the Juno writer.
“I’m so excited about Sweet Valley High, there’s original songs being written for it right now.” Cody continued, “They’re being written by these tony and pultzer winning songwriters from broadway… Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, Who wrote Next To Normal.”
Then Horowitz asked Cody, “if it’s going to be a musical”? To which she replied “perhaps it is”. She also said there’s going to be “A lot of familiar 80s awesomeness for fans of the series”.
The Sweet Valley High book series was created in 1983 by Francine Pascal. She hired a series of ghost writers who in the end produced 152 books over 20 years. The series revolved around the lives of teenagers Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, a couple of twins who lived in Sweet Valley, California.
No casting or release date has been set for the film yet.
