‘Starcraft 2′ Sells 3 Million Copies in One Month, Breaks Records

Today, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc, announced that Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, has sold over 3 Million copies, making it the fastest selling real-time strategy game in history.

Blizzard Entertainment says the game sold upwards of 1 million copies on its first day, making it the top selling PC game of 2010.  It went on  to sell another 500,000 copies on its second day of release.

 Blizzard isn’t new to breaking records. Though the highly succesful and critically acclaimed sequel  now holds the record of fastest selling RTS, it didnt reach even half the record of  fastest selling PC game of all game, Blizzard’s own, World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King holds the current record with 2.8 million day one sales.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment says “We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II,” he continues,  “It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it’s been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game.”
