Oscar Nominations, Ten Chances And They Still Can’t Get It Right

Published by Seth Quillen in: Film -- Date: 2 Feb 2010 Comments: 0

I, like many people thought that the move from 5 to ten Oscar nominations for best picture would give justice to those great films that just didn’t fit into the Academy’s ideals. Oh how we were wrong.  Leaving out Star Trek and Invictus for best picture was a horrible misstep. Star Trek got seriously robbed, not being nominated for best picture is the biggest mistake since Fight Club missed the nod in 1999.  Actually the dis on The Dark Knight last year was pretty bad too. And where’s Sharlto Copley for District 9 for best actor, he perfectly portrayed the evolution of his character. Despite the obvious oversights, the Oscars will probably be up in the ratings a little this year because Avatar is nominated for best picture and let’s face it unless you’re these guys you’ve seen the movie. Anyway, here are the nominees.
