My Most Anticipated Games of 2010

Here we are at the start of a new year with a few solid titles having already hit retail such as Army of Two: The 40th Day, Darksiders, and Bayonetta. Here are the games this year that I feel are worth a fuss, in no particular order(except the first one, its definitly my number 1):
Most anticipated games of 2010
Mass Effect 2 (XBOX 360)
The first game was simply stunning. It had it all. It merged shooter gameplay with a deep RPG into a very fluid and exciting experience. The depth and immensity of the galaxy will be expanded along with new people, weapons, and abilities. But more than anything the story made this game. It’s a true gem in videogame story-telling and is what drove and will drive players to complete the game multiple times.
Bioshock 2 (XBOX 360 PS3)
I’m a bit worried that they are doing a sequel to such an amazingly original game. I don’t think it was made with a sequel in mind and I honestly think development of the second game started as a cash in. Being done by a new developer with large personnel changes doesnt help my worry, but the facts are it improves on the excellent game-play of the first, adds multi-player, and lets us see more of the brilliant underwater city of Rapture. That’s enough for me.
God of War 3 (PS3)
How can you not love the first two games in the series? Now we get larger scale fights, new weapons, magic, and puzzles, and of course all the technical aspects of the game will be much improved. This has me excited about going to hell.
Alan Wake (XBOX 360
From the devolper that brought us Max Payne comes a game that we STILL don’t really know much about. Its some kind of horror-thriller about some writer who hasn’t written for a while and weird scary stuff happens in some small town that has to do with a book he wrote but has no memory have having done so. I don’t really know. The game will play out in a beautiful open world as we unravel the mystery. But mostly I just want to know more about this.
All points bulletin (XBOX 360)
It’s a cops and robbers progressive MMO with the most extensive character customization ever. Really. Ever. This game gives bad guys missions starting out with small robberies and moving up to more organized crime, then gives a similar skill set of cops an “All Points Bulletin” to stop them. This game just has to be awesome.
Final Fantasy 13 (XBOX 360 PS3)
The first true Final Fantasy game for this generation of consoles. Its a Square-Enix RPG so we can expect it will be great. This one should include nearly seamless transitions from gameplay to cinematics like unto Metal Gear Solid 4. Everything about this new FF game seems to be shaping up nicely. XBOX fans can rejoice that that are finally invited to the formerly Playstation exclusive party.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
The first still holds as one of the best games on the Wii, this should improve in every way. I love the colors, the motion controls, the gravity. Just all of it. I don’t think this will just be “more of the same,” but rather I expect a truly great game and what is the biggest game for the Wii this year.
CrackDown 2 (XBOX 360)
What looked like a GTA clone with you as a cop instead of a criminal turned out to be a very innovative open-world game. It had its share of kinks such as graphical glitches, lack of depth in the story, and some very repetitious dialogue(skills for kills agent, skills for kills), but was just a flat-out fun game. The drama of the sequel’s development resulted in a change of its studio, but with many of the original personal being involved and other talented members on the team, I don’t think we need to worry.
Halo Reach (XBOX 360)
Star Craft 2 (PC)
OH MAN. I won’t touch a game-console for atleast a month when this comes out. Seriously…12 years later. But who cares. It’s coming. Star Craft is largely considered the best RTS ever made. Starcraft 2 will change a lot of things, but improve on even more. Its a trilogy now. And they are helping to motivate the developer community by allowing them to charge for their maps over battle.net. These facts worry some, but let’s face it, Blizzard’s track record is PERFECT. Yes. Perfect.
Others worth watching: Splinter Cell: Conviction, Green Day: Rock Band, Diablo 3, Fable III, Max Payne 3, Heavy Rain, Dead Rising 2, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, Lost Planet 2
