Deadline is reporting that the as yet untitled Bond 23 film, the sequel to Quantum of Solace, is set to go into production in late 2011 for a worldwide release on Nov 9, 2012.

Daniel Craig will return for his 3rd outing as the ultimate gentleman spy, James Bond. Sam Mendes who was previously hired on as a consultant has officially stepped into the director’s chair. Mendes will work from a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

The script is being kept super-secret, but we do know that Bond 23 picks up after Quantum Of Solace. Possibly similar to the direct continuation Solace made when picking up right after the events in Casino Royale. Making the three films very much one continous story.

Bond 23 was originally planned for a 2011 release but due to the extensive financial woes over at MGM production had been put on hold indefinitely. MGM’s problems also caused the delay of Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit films, which are now safely in pre-production and are scheduled to begin filming in February.

We may have gotten the next Bond film a little sooner, but as the production delays continued star Daniel Craig had to fill his time with other projects that are still in the works. Craig is currently filming the adaptation of Stieg Larsson Swedish novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and recently wrapped filming onJon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens which hits theaters July 29.

Meanwhile Bond 23 director Sam Mendes is set to film the screen adaptation of the Ian McEwan novel On Chesil Beach and will be directing the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
