Is the Karate Kid remake just for kids?

With reluctance I usually enjoy revamps. I don’t know why I resist, maybe I’m holding on to something from the past, a childhood experience? But truth is, remakes are generally more enjoyable than the original ala Oceans Eleven, Moulin Rouge and 1959’s Ben-Hur. An update is usually reworked to include more action a better story and more importantly a wider audience. But after watching the trailer for the new Karate Kid, it seems to be more like 3 Ninjas or Like Mike, neither having the mass appeal of the original. Both films are made for young teenagers and tweeners. Whereas, the original brought a little something for everyone. That said I fully endorse Jackie Chan playing Mr. Miyagi. He’s a veteran to film and truly a great martial artist.
