My second favorite book is finally becoming a film. Orson Scott Card’s classic sci-fi novel Ender’s Game will finally arrived in theaters Nov. 1 2013. I know it’s a year away and the end of the world may come before then but I still can’t help but get excited. And the photo and interview from ew is raising the anticipation even higher.
EW has the exclusive first look at Harrison Ford who plays the intimidating, impossible to please or understand, Colonel Graff. Also in the photo is Asa Butterfields as Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, who could not have been cast more perfectly. And ss the photo would suggest these two have a hard time getting along. I hope it translates to the screen.
Most encouraging about the Ender’s film adaptation is director Gavin Hood’s apparent respect and love for the source material. In the interview with ew he spoke of his commitment to the book,
“Hood wants fans of the novel to know that he holds Ender’s Game, the book, in high esteem. “I am a fan,” he says, “and I have had a desire to do this and have been working on this now for nearly four years.” To that end, the director promises that the book’s dark ending (which I won’t spoil here) has remained fully in tact. “That ending — and the complex moral questions that it raises — is one of the reasons why I love the book, ” says Hood. “I promise you that it is very much there.”
