Twentieth Century Fox has set a June 24, 2011 release for the next Planet Of The Apes movie, tentatively titled Rise Of The Apes. It will be a completely new take on one of the Studio’s most successful franchises.
Rise Of The Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) will direct a screenplay by Amanda Silver & Rick Jaffa, who also are producing. And apparently Peter Jackson’s effects company, Weta Digital, will be tasked with the special effects and the Apes will for be CG.
Finally another Apes movie, maybe this will help rid me of the bitter taste the Tim Burton one left on my tongue. (THR)
