The Star Wars Universe

Yesterday Bob Igor officially let out the news that Disney is planning multiple Star Wars stand alone movies. These spinoffs would be produced and released during the same period as Star Wars episode 7, 8 and 9. It made me think what charcters would be the best suited to have their on Star Wars spinoff. Earlier this week rumors of a Yoda movie broke. And I’d like to say I’m against that one. I really don’t think I could take 120 minutes of someone talking backwards.

Here’s my choice for the Five Star Wars Characters Who Should Have a Spinoff.

Han SoloHan Solo
Han Solo seems to be one of the most obvious choices. The story would start sometime before he met luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi in the Mos Eisley Cantina. It’d be great to see what he was like when he only “cared about the reward”. Solo is mostly out to serve himself but he has also has a weakness to help the little guy. So his compassion could put him in a bind in certain situations. The Han Solo spin would also weave Chewbacca into the film. Which is great but that would 86 Chewbaccas chance at his own spinoff. And Lando Calrissian would stop by so can see exactly how Han won the Millenium Falcon from him. And maybe in his own movie he’ll have the balls to shoot first again.

Mace WinduMace Windu
While Mace Windu had a descent presence in the Star Wars prequel trilogy we really know nothing about him except that he is great with a Light Saber. This could open the story up to some great battles. Master Windu seems like a very calm Jedi who is in control of his emotions. I would love to see him let loose to his anger and show us a little bit of the dark side of the force.

Mara Jade Skywalker
You have to go a little outside the films and into the Star Wars Expanded Universe to find her. But she has such a Mara Jade Skywalkercomplex character, it would be great to see it play out on the screen. You could easily get a trilogy out of her alone. She was raised as a servant to Emperor Palpatine and became a high-level Force-using operative. She was also a smuggler and later a Jedi Master who sat on the Jedi High Council. And she married Luke Skywalker.

There’s often complaints that there are not enough women in sci-fi and fantasy movies. Why not solve that problem with the story of a female Jedi. And guys love girls who can kick a little ass.

Darth MaulDarth Maul
The only problem with Darth Maul, is can you make a movie where you root for the bad guy? And this great lord of the Sith seems like he has nothing but evil inside him. Making you root for the bad guy has been done before by making the another guy even more evil. But they’d have to be real evil to solve this problem. I’d love to see more Light Saber battles from him. I think he was better with the sword than The Phantom Menace gave him credit.

Boba Fett
Before the prequel trilogy he was everybody’s favorite secondary character in the Star Wars universe. And still is to lots of people. There are so many questions. Why did he wear the suit of a Mandalorian Warrior? Did he have it out for Han Solo or was it all about the money? Does he hate the Jedi after they killed his father? While I think the mystery is what made us like him I think there would be a lot great stories that could come out of his history.
