Empire is reporting that Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of Terry Gilliam’s long-delayed film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Ewan will join Robert Duvall, who’s been attached to the project for some time.

McGregor will step into the role that Johnny Depp was originally set to play back in 2000 when Gilliam first attempted to film Quixote. Depp had still been attached to the role for this version, but with no has a conflicting schedule du to filming Pirates Of The Caribbean 4.

Quixoteis a project that Gilliam has long been trying to put together. In fact, back in 2000 many of the sets were built and Depp even showed up for the start of filming. Alas the project was plagued by every disaster possible and was chronicled in the excellent documentary Lost in La Mancha.
