Yoda in Star Wars Spinoff

Disney CEO Bob Iger officially has announced they are currently working on stand alone spinoff Star Wars movies. Igor spoke a little about the expanded Star Wars film universe just a day after rumors of a possible Yoda movie hit the internet. He did not give any details on who will be in the stand alone movies. But if it is Yoda that means the spinoff films will not follow any kind of chronological order. Being that Yoda died in Empire. Was that a spoiler? I mean the movie did come out almost 33 years ago.

But back to today news, Igor said,
“There has been speculation about some stand-alone films that are in development,” Iger tells CNBC. “I can confirm to you today that, in fact, we are working on a few stand-alone films. Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great ‘Star Wars’ characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Episodes 7, 8, and 9, roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. There are going to be a few other films released in that time, too.”

I love how he can’t hold back his smile. He knows what he just said is a BIG deal and that the Internet is about to go Star Wars crazy once again. Also get me some Disney stock.

Lawrence (Larry) Kasdan wrote the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Pretty good resume. While Simon Kinberg wrote Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand and Sherlock Holmes. Also pretty impressive. It wasn’t completely clear if the two were working on movies together or if each had their own assignment.

What is becoming VERY clear is that Disney is more than serious about putting out good product and not just milking the franchise on name brand alone. Remember they already put J.J. Abrams on Star Wars: Episode VII. And Abrams is probably the best creator and reviver of franchises in the last 20 years.
