According to Variety, David Slade AKA “The Vampire Man” is in talks to develop and direct the new Daredevil movie for 20th Century Fox and Regency. Slade has made a name for himself for directing vampire movies. First with 30 Days of Night, then The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, he’s currently in pre-production on The Last Voyage of Demeter, about the transportation of Dracula’s coffin from Transylvania to England. Slade continues the vampire love with the blind Daredevil, who’s not technically a vampire, but his super power is his sonar vision similar to bats. And don’t vampire’s turn into bats? Close enough for me.

The new and still untitled Daredevil movie will continue the story of the blind superhero established in 2003′s Daredevil, but feature a brand new cast without Ben Affleck or Jennifer Garner. Sounds similar to what they did with the The Incredible Hulk (2008) which did not necessarily ignore the events the 2003 Hulk film rather than just chose not to incorporate them into the next film.  Similarly Eric Bana, who starred in the 2003 film was replaced by Edward Norton in 2008. The Hulk role is now being passed on to Mark Raffalo who will apear as the green beast in The Avengers movie coming out next summer.

Heat Vision says the Daredevil story will feature the Frank Miller-written and David Mazzucchelli-illustrated Born Again run of the comic series, which saw the Kingpin of Crime learn the identity of the superhero and begin to systematically destroy his life.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Daredevil or his super power. I mean he’s blind and he uses sonar to see, that only makes him slightly more efficient than a blind man and not quite as capable as an everyday average regular seeing man. But Slade has an edge to his style that might just make Daredevil cool enough to enjoy.
