‘Dark Knight’ Director Becomes “Godfather” Of Superman Reboot

So as I’m sitting hear watching another great episode of Smallville (S8E11 – Legion), I wondered over to Deadline and found some great news on yet another superhero reboot, that’s right it’s only been 3 years, but Superman is up again.

I can’t quite pinpoint what I didn’t like about Superman Returns, it was just kind of boring. In the hands of Bryan Singer (X-Men 1 and 2) I thought it was a lock, I was wrong.

Now Warner brothers has asked Chris Nolan, the man behind the awesome Batman Begins and amazing The Dark Knight, to be the “godfather” of Superman and make sure the reboot happens soon.

“So Warner Bros is now bringing in Batman’s saviour. What Nolan would do with the Superman character and story is intriguing to say the least. And he has the experience necessary of prepping and pepping a played-out franchise. The 2005 Batman Begins grossed $373 million worldwide on a reported $150 million budget. And of course 2008’s The Dark Knight crossed the $1 billion worldwide gross mark on a reported $185 million budget (and Heath Ledger posthumously won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).”(Deadline)

My one concern is that Batman has always had the darker side and Superman more in the light, really a “square” of the superheroes. Superman, at least on the screen does not have a dark side. So even though I completely trust Nolan and would enjoy an edgier movie, I wouldn’t necessarily want it to be dark, which is a definite theme in Nolan’s films going all the way back to Memento.

BONUS: With Nolan running both franchises, maybe we’ll get the Superman/Batman movie. Dare to dream!!!
