D.J. Caruso to Direct ‘Preacher’ Film Adaptation

It’s taken several years and a lot of shifting around, but the film adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Vertigo comic book series Preacher, is moving forward with director D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four).
Yesterday Caruso tweeted out “My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side…” Possibly a refence to his 2002 ”dark” film The Salton Sea about a man who’s wife is murdered, which sends him into a world populated by thugs and speed junkies.
John August wrote a Preacher script Sony Pictures a couple years ago but there’s no word if Caruso will work from that or if he will flesh out his own story. The Preacher comic series follows young preacher Jesse Custer who gains the power to speak with the voice of God, and can make anyone who hears his voice do as he says. He’s a dark good guy, who may do some evil to help the world.
Caruso has been building considerable clout in Hollywood with his last few films including I Am Number Four, Disturbia and Eagle Eye. While none of his these films have bee huge blockbusters, they all had solid returns and were a joy to watch. I think this is going to be a good match.
