According to Heat Vision, Cobie Smulders, the How I met Your Mother star, is in final negotiations to take a role in Marvel’s The Avengers movie. The Avengers movie is being written and directed by fanboy favorite,  Joss Whedon (Dollhouse, Serenity). It was reported last week that Smulder’s was a candidate.

Smulders will play Samuel L. Jackson’s assistant, Maria Hill, and member S.H.I.E.L.D., an espionage agency run by Nick Fury (Jackson) who’s character was in the first two Iron Man movies. The Hill Character is a bit of a bad-ass who’s know for being an awesome fighter and great negotiator. She’s also been known to blackmail the occasional superhero. Smulders will be locked into a nine film deal that would take her through a variety of Marvel movies.

Smulder probably won’t have a lot of screen time in The Avengers movie as she would be joining an already large cast of superheroes including Scarlett Johansson (as the Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). The Avengers is scheduled to start shooting in late April with a May 4, 2012 release date.
