Filmpopper Review: ‘Going The Distance’

September 6, 2010 by Kelly · 1 Comment

In the romantic comedy Going the Distance Erin (Drew Barrymore) meets a guy named Garrett (Justin Long) and they’re perfect for each other.  But this is the movies, so of course there’s going to be a problem. The problem is that they live in different cities, and if they want to continue dating they’ll have to deal with all the difficulties that come with a long distance relationship.

The movie was okay, and had a few good laughs, but it felt like someone took a somewhat decent romantic comedy and decided at the last minute to add a lot of gross jokes and expletives in the hopes that guys would like it.  Now, I know that guys tend to like toilet humor more than women, Read more

UK ‘Inception’ Blu-ray Release is AWESOME!

September 4, 2010 by Joseph · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Blu-ray - DVD, Film

I’m a nolan fanboy, I frequent NolanFans.com, I’m always showing Memento and The Prestige to any poor soul who has yet to see them, and its rare a week goes buy I don’t watch one of his movies. This set is perfect for nutcases like myself. The package includes:

  • Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copies of the movie
  • Dream Machine mini briefcase
  • Spinning Top
  • PASIV Device manual
  • Movie Artwork Cards
  • Digital comics “The CoBol Job” and “The Big Under”

The two digital comics included will serve as prologues to the extraction scene at the beginning of the movie, giving more insight into Cobb’s character and work.

Currently there is no word about this coming to the states, but I see no reason why it won’t. Lets hope for the best.

Now available for preorder from Amazon.co.uk.

An Open Letter To The Future Director of ‘The Hunger Games’

September 2, 2010 by Kelly · 5 Comments

Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay (the third and final installment in The Hunger Games series) came out last week and it’s a huge hit. Hype for the film adaptation is ramping up.  Collins is writing the screenplay herself and Lionsgate is producing. Now it’s time for a director to be chosen.

An Open Letter To The Future Director of The Hunger Games

First, whoever you are, congratulations!  I hope you realize what an honor it is to bring The Hunger Games to life on the big screen.  Odds are you’re not a total idiot since you’ve come this far in life and even if you are, the fact that Suzanne Collins is writing the screenplay herself gives me hope you won’t be able to totally screw it up.  I’m sorry to be so negative, but I’ve been hurt in the past by awful film adaptations of wonderful and beloved books.  So all I’m asking is this: please don’t let me down like the Twilight people did.

Twilight was awful.  Yes, it made a ton of money, but I attribute this to the fact that tweens all across the country have a lot of disposable income Read more

Microsoft’s  Director of Programming for Xbox Live, Larry Hyrb (gamertag Major Nelson) has announced that the price for Xbox Live will be going up on Novermber 1st.

The price increase moves a yearly subscription up from $49.99 to $59.99. Another $10 hardly seems like something to make a fuss about when considering how many new features have been added since the launch of Xbox Live in 2002. Read more

Filmpopper Review: ‘Eat Pray Love’… We Know It’s Late

August 31, 2010 by Kelly · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Film

Here at Filmpopper we don’t regularly cover a lot in the realm of chick flicks, so I was a little confused when the editor agreed it would be a good idea to include a review of Eat, Pray, Love. I can only assume that he’s currently facing some sort of sexual harassment lawsuit, and felt that he could counteract any negative PR by pretending to care about something popular with women.

Anyway, I know this review is horribly late, and by now most of you already know the plot of Eat Pray Love, but here’s a sum up for those of you who don’t. Julia Roberts plays Liz, a woman who decides she’s lost her lust for life and wants to find it by spending a year traveling to Rome, India and Bali. Read more

August 20, 2010 by Seth · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Blu-ray - DVD, Film

So we are finally getting the Star Wars saga on the glorious Blu-ray format. The announcement came from George Lucas himself at Star Wars Celebration 5 (side note, I went to Celebration 1 in 1999 and it was awesome!) that all six live-action Star Wars films will be released next year on Blu-ray for the first time.
