Palm Beach Illustrated scored a really great interview with Carrie Fisher, and she shares just a few details about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars film. Fisher tells us that she will indeed be back as Leia Organa, princess and leader of the rebel forces.
Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?
What do you think Princess Leia is like today?
Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.
It seems that the returning characters will take the backseat in the new trilogy, as I’m sure many people are relieved to hear. Star Wars sequels without them may feel a bit hollow, but bringing them to the forefront of the films might not work so well either. They are old. And we don’t need to see any more computer generated “real” people, a la Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy.
Carrie Fisher has battled drug addiction and bi-polar disorder for decades, but despite her difficulties she has managed to maintain a career in acting and writing, and she has been very public about her struggles. Fisher even jokes about it on occasion and if any of you can remember, she stole the show at the AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute To George Lucas. If you havent seen this, you must watch it now.
As a side note, a search for pictures of Leia Organa will bring up thousands of pictures, but 90% of them are the same two outfits. I’m sure you can guess atleast one of them.
The next film in the Star Wars saga will hit theatres in 2015.
