It looks like those of you already on Zoloft due to the depression caused by not living on Pandora are going to have refill those prescriptions. Empire has a little exclusive on the Avatar 2 release date and it’s looking like it may not be hitting your local megaplex until 2015.
Empire caught up with James Cameron’s production partner Jon Landau to talk about the Titanic 3D release and they couldn’t help but ask about the status of Avatar 2.
“We’re not naming dates, but I think 2014 will be a tough date for us to make. It’s about getting it right.” He also said, “We’ve started already,” he says Landau. “WETA are already working and we have our core team, (animation supervisor) Richie Baneham and (digital effects supervisor) Nolan Murtha, working with us. And we’re working on underwater performance-capture.”
So it looks like a 2015 release for Avatar 2. And if they film them back to back you may see Avatar 3 in 2016, but it’s more likely it’ll 2017 until we see the trilogy all wrapped up. The real question is, “Will anyone care about gimicky 3D films by then”? They may have to come up with some sort of original or creative story to sale the second and third installment in the series.
